an occult-kitsch emporium
Wedged in a wide, cobblestone alley that straddles Eudio's old quarter and the closest thing the city has to a wrong side of the tracks, TRIX is an unusual little shop that defies any easy categorization. It's a thrift shop carrying used records, vintage toys, trinkets and magical artifacts, as well as an apothecary and an occult atelier.

WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE: Psychedelic rock and pop of the late '60's and '70's. Simmering and bubbling potions. The occasional chatter of enchanted toys; the conversation of clients and visitors.
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE: Weird. There’s a medicinal/sulfury/earthy/herbal smell owed to the potion-brewing, the musty scent of old books and vintage stuff, plus maybe some smoky incense rounding it out.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
Interior:
Dimly lit, psychedelic, helter-skelter occult kitsch. An old, deeply scarred wooden floor with a haphazard patchwork of shag and kilim throw rugs. Fairy lights, blacklights, lava lamps. Lots of candles, lots of mirrors. The walls are covered in tapestries, vintage horror movie and rock posters, trippy blacklight-responsive art, and weird ancient-looking woodcuts of monsters and occult iconography. There’s a vintage jukebox, a retro chips/candy/cigarette vending machine, a Nozz-A-La vending machine, and an Addams Family-themed pinball machine. Skeletons and cryptid taxidermy. There’s some notable furniture outlined below.
One large, narrow but deep/long room with various sections, two small side rooms and a dispensary in back. The large room contains most of the shop: the register is toward the front, the apothecary shelves toward the back. The only window in the main shop is the large storefront window. There's a short, L-shaped bar backed by a tarnished mirror; many iterations ago, the place was a watering hole, and the original wooden bartop and six stools remain. The monstrous antique register sits on the short end of the L. Flagg is usually stationed back here, or sometimes closer to the shopfront, lounging sideways in a chair with a book, legs kicked up. Most of the furniture is clustered over by the used records, the bookshelves and the juke: a really ratty, old, but intensely groovy sofa, a couple of beaten-up leather armchairs and tassely, kilim floor pillows. If you’re not annoying you’re welcome to hang out, read, listen to records, kick back.
One of the side rooms is for private consultations, whatever that means. The other is a closet-sized office/crash pad in the event Flagg doesn’t feel like hauling ass back to his place at night. Finally, in the back, there’s a small work room/lab/storage area.
STUFF YOU CAN BUY*:
Herbs/plants: There’s already an apothecary in town that’s a lot more comprehensive, so there aren’t a lot of these. Mostly, he stocks what he uses in the potions he makes, which I’ll eventually link to here. You can also find fun, creepy plants & fungi: psychedelic mushrooms, Venus fly traps, a couple varieties of weed and a few magical plants like devil’s snare, too! [If you’re curious if he has something, ask me so I can decide/check with the mods as needed.]
Books: There’s already plenty of bookstores in town, so there won’t be much in this category, but there will be some, all second-hand. Expect to find all manner of texts on magic/the paranormal/psychic phenomena/cryptids/the occult etc, many of which are totally bogus or novelties (though some are the real deal). Also plenty of dog-eared trashy pulp novels. A couple of favorite sci-fi/fantasy classics. Classy vintage pr0n.
Second-hand vinyl Like it says on the tin: ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s; generally Keystone Earth stuff but maybe AU items, too, all sorted into rows of milkcrates.
Miscellaneous: He’s got all kinds of stupid knick-knacks kicking around: chattery wind-up teeth, magically animated toys (little walking-talking foul-mouthed troll dolls), Ouija boards, a couple hookahs, magic/joke store trinkets, vintage pinback buttons, framed horror movie posters from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, Magic 8 Balls, etc. If you’re looking for something, ask me, and I’ll tell you if he’s got it. Or if he can get it.
Vending machines: (2) beat-up 70s? vending machines, one of which stocks candy, chips, and cigarettes, and one of which stocks only Nozz-A-La, an alternate universe version of Coca-Cola.
Addams Family-themed pinball machine: Ok, you can’t buy it, but you can buy a game! I wouldn’t beat his high score if I were you, though.
NOTES:
- Flagg sources his items from all over Eudio, the internet, and surrounding cities. If there's something special you want, ask him about it.
- Not everything in the store is necessarily for sale. Flagg picks up items because he thinks they’re cool, generally with intent to sell, but sometimes, toddler-like, he’ll decide he doesn’t actually want to part with something if it’s grown on him, or once he sees you want it. He might tell you no, or he’ll try to drive a harder bargain. I’ll let you handwave whether or not he starts an argument with your character and/or denies them a sale. If you'd like to handwave Flagg denying someone a sale or starting an argument with your character (or thread it out!) just hit me up!
- TRIX is cash-only, with the exception of barter/trade as an option. He prefers it to cash, actually, but it isn't often someone has something really useful to him, or something that piques his interest. But go for it anyway, and again, I'm happy to do a thread or a handwave. :D
- EVERYTHING for sale in the shop is subject to Eudio's restrictions on magic and substances! Flagg's incentive is dear to him and where consent is concerned, anyway, he's a law-abiding citizen.
- Eventually I'll put up a list of magical charmed objects/potions for sale! Until then, just ask. :)
